The series comes from producer Rob Dyrdek and follows five viral hopefuls as they showcase how they cook up their next crazy idea. In the unscripted arena, CMT will launch “The Dude Perfect Show” April 14 at 9 p.m. It’s something to see.” The concert will be added to a lineup of music showcases that include “Crossroads,” “CMT Artists of the Year” and “CMT Music Awards.”ĬMT’s documentary slate this year includes the three-night event “NASCAR: The Rise of American Speed” as well as SXSW-selected original documentaries “The Bandit” in August and “Chicken People” in November. Our biggest stars can now, much like the Rolling Stones, can fill baseball stadiums. “It’s the biggest thing we will do all year, and that’s what we want to document.” Executives wanted to chronicle “a modern phenomenon in country music that would have been unheard of a few years ago. The new “Concert of the Summer” will take viewers inside the sheer scale of a stadium concert, said Brian Philips, president of CMT. “There is a sense of quality and craft that starts with the music.” “We are looking at country as a state of mind,” said Anthony Barton, CMT senior VP of marketing and creative, in an interview. In addition to the Frances and Earnhardt, the documentary also features interviews with Jeff Gordon, Kevin Harvick, Matt Kenseth, Joey Logano, Richard Petty, Tony Stewart and Darrell Waltrip.Viacom’s CMT said it would double the amount of original programming it has on the air, launching a new summer concert tentpole event and try to strike a chord with new kinds of scripted series such as “Still the King,” a comedy starring Billy Ray Cyrus, and “Million Dollar Quartet,” a series about the world of 1950s Memphis, where the pioneers of rock ‘n’ roll came of age. The final two are set to air on May 15 and May 22 respectively, focusing on the Modern Era, in which NASCAR evolved into a legitimate televised sport on par with football, baseball and basketball. But I think fans will be surprised at these personalities and how raw the sport was, or how far we've come along in the past 50 years." The first episode will premiere on Sunday at 9 p.m. A lot of people who follow the sport remember the '80s and '90s, so I don't think I was as critical about it since we all know what happened. "This is what life was like for these people and how the tough their environment really was - how wild and crazy it was. "I'd show this to anyone and say this is how I believe it was and that it best represents what it was like before NASCAR really became a sport. "The first episode especially is exactly what I hoped it would be," Earnhardt said. Earnhardt believes this is a benefit for newer fans who don't totally understand the traditions of his sport. But in "The Rise of American Speed," the gritty history of the sport is completely laid bare for everyone to see. For much of the past decade, NASCAR had actually shied away from its bootlegging past. "I'm not sure if Brian or Lesa (France, both interviewed for the film) have watched it, but I think the filmmakers were free to tell the story they wanted and had free range to talk to a lot of interesting people, and I think they did a good job."The documentary is one of the first in a long time to blatantly depict Parks as the primary money-man behind France's vision of stock-car racing, and to plainly assert that Parks and Vogt were deeply embedded in the southern mafia-like enterprise of bootlegging. "Some of the things in this film were surprising to because it involves NASCAR. "I'm not sure that NASCAR was too involved or what boxes they wanted checked off the list," Earnhardt told Autoweek on Tuesday. Earnhardt, a noted historian of the sport, said he was actually surprised by how honest the filmmakers were in depicting the politically incorrect atmosphere of NASCAR's formative years. as a driver-turned-entrepreneur with visions of delivering a niche sport to a national spotlight. The story begins with pioneers like Raymond Parks, Red Vogt and Lloyd Seay, but quickly introduces a young Bill France Sr. In many ways, the special is a love letter to the controlling France family and its role in carving a national sport out of the roots of illegal moonshine bootlegging on the rural dirt roads of Central Georgia. It is a unique format that aims to make NASCAR history feel current for newer fans who might be unfamiliar with the personalities and circumstances surrounding the early days of stock-car racing. The series, which will air on CMT, is a mix of archival footage, re-enactments and interviews. Sunday night will see the debut of "NASCAR: The Rise of American Speed," a three-part docudrama produced in part by superstar driver Dale Earnhardt Jr.
(Though the montages that end with a moment of horror are compelling in their own way.) Also worth noting: The Mirror Shot doesn’t necessarily need to involve a mirror, but it doesn’t hurt. A person’s recognition of their own ability to change is super-powerful, and the triumph of transformation is an underratedly beautiful thing to behold.
